February  We are very excited about the new exclusive range of frame mouldings specially made and styled in Farrow and Ball ® finishes. These will also be available on our web site for discerning customers wishing to order bespoke frames online shortly.

We are undergoing a large re-styling of the shop. to make it more a relaxing place for customers to order.

In addition we are making it easier for everybody with a larger counter with a dedicated design and browsing area, where customers can choose frames and mounts at their leisure. We will be trialling a Visualisation programme,  so that customers can see exactly what their finished item will look like.

2007 news

November - Due to being exceptionally busy with internet orders,  we are taking telephone orders and enquiries Mondays to Thursdays now, a lot of packing and shipping by post is done at the end of the week, and Friday and Saturdays we are shop-counter only. You can still place your orders online any day or time, and they are processed as normal.  We expect the "rush" to continue till Christmas, so please take this into account and don't leave ordering to the last minute!

October - And welcome aboard John. John is our Saturday "lad", although he's staring down both barrels of 50 this year. John is a well known Westcountry photographer, and you can also find his images of Cornwall in our shop or on his website www.johnstedman.co.uk as well as in outlets all over Cornwall and parts of Devon.

Bulk mounts in qty 10, 50 and 100 have been added, each of these has its own custom price calculator. We hope this makes it easier for you, saves phone calls and emails, and gives you an instant price without waiting. 

Comment: We have always offered a good service, value and quality to local customers and artists. We have extended this to our internet sales - wherever possible.  Despite some hiccups this year due a serious and unexpected illness, we do our best not to let customers down. We would like to thank our customers who have been understanding, but as for the few "screamers" here is a message from the boss: Get a grip, nobody died because their frame was late. Have a word with yourself, its a family run business. People get sick, sometimes they even die. Life's too short. Normal service has been resumed.

September - Suzi has been seriously I'll, so she will be part-time from now on.    So....Changes in the way we work!  Welcome aboard Linda. Linda is in the shop Mondays, and doing plenty of admin! Tom and Kev, from the workshops are out on the counter all day Fridays and some other days, and Suzi is at the counter on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. 

New web-site  features : A custom size frame calculator/secure order facility, another new range of high quality solid wood frame mouldings.

January we are installing a new network for the shop and workshop computers, and installing an additional workstation terminal in the workshop so that mount orders can be programmed as other orders are cut.

Re-organising the retail shop is ongoing, we are  clearing out 100s of pictures and prints to make over the space for ready made frames and mounts, so look out for our special offers or come and make an offer for a job lot!

 A new Electro Hydraulic Morso mitre cutting machine is on order.

Clearance of pictures and prints, HALF PRICE, or FREE if framed! We are reorganising the shop after Christmas, and these have to go to make room.

2006 July News

One of our online shop servers experienced technical problems for a couple of hours on Friday 21st during which time the main online shop page (only the entry page) was sometimes not available. The rest of the site, on 3 mirrors, remains 100 percent uptime.

We have affiliated with Allposters.com and ArtBank, customers can now view and buy a huge range of art prints and original art from the artbank link and the allposters features on our site.

2006 May News

Many orders are now routinely upgraded to premium boards and mouldings, subject to availability, at no extra charge.

New Carriers ANC deliver all our orders that are not sent by royal mail. Most orders over £40 to UK mainland will be by ANC

Most orders over £100 to UK are now carriage free. we will generally refund any packing and delivery charges added by paypal or card processors on our site. 

New computer networking in the shop. Wizard mount cutting software updated. Eslite pricing software updated.

The eBay Kawasaki made it without missing a beat, and with the help of InfoRad there was  no speed camera surprises. Not bad for a twelve year old import ;)  we raised between us over twelve thousand pounds for Cornwall Air Ambulance.

New staff

 Before starting work for us all new staff, whether framers or workshop assistants or new to the work, now undertake an independent  Fine Art Trade Guild accredited training course before working unsupervised to maintain a consistent knowledge about the quality of work required and understanding of the standards of framing laid down by the FATG. First on the course - Alan Smith. Welcome to the workshop Alan. With modern framing techniques and technology, and recent advances in materials, particularly mount boards and their applications, we feel this is absolutely essential for new staff in any modern framing business.

Deliveries We have had some horrible muppetry with one of our carriers, who have ceased leaving cards for failed deliveries, so any orders which have not arrived, please get in touch, as its probably in a depot near you. We are sending all online orders from early February by another carrier.

For the winter season we have stocked up on a range of cracking prints - "wall fillers at stocking filler prices". includes big famous prints from Monet, Dali, Picasso, Munch etc  from a big US art museum shop, plus many John Millers' and the usual suspects from the Art Group, including Jack Vettriano , Rothko etc.

As a large part of our business is mount cutting, and we already own frames.uk.com it seemed like madness not to have a separate home page for customers who are just interested in mounts. At the same time we added some geek stuff to the site, quotes forms and suchlike, so that we can quote for cutomers' enquiries about custom mounts without either side having to endure the others' life story....  gets the quotes out quicker, too ;)  The online mount cutting section is being made into a separate "online shop" -Pictureframer himself decides he wants more automation to spend more time motorcycling.... the met office, datatool alarms and his bike battery seldom agree.  Roll on summer.

Custom Colours no extra charge on packs of mounts and some other orders

Upgraded board whenever available in standard colours for custom cut mounts -creams and whites will whenever possible receive a free upgrade to full BWS3 quality conservation board, acid free and white core. If you want further info on this please don't hesitate to ask.

From January we will be doing bulk trade packs of mounts at discount rates.

Corricor/Art-Cor/Art-Bak and other Backing boards

OK, we admit we are beginning to lose the plot with what the products are called this week! Our suppliers reps assure us that it is the same product, regardless of the name printed on it.  Sometimes they'll even say so in writing. Byron Mouldings/Byron Artcare no longer distribute the corricor brand, and other distributors have taken on distribution of it under a different name. Britannia now have the corricor name. As we use different suppliers at different times, the board may come to you branded as any of the above, or unbranded. We also do MDF, which is handy as the board manufacturers don't seem so intent on waiving writs at each other over the name "MDF".
